IRC conducted a qualitative study of how women in Bangladesh experience and engage in political and civic life. The study looked at voting, public expression, political events, running for office and involvement with civil society organisations. It also explored the barriers women face and what could strengthen their participation. IRC held focus group discussions with women from urban and rural areas across all divisions of the country, including housewives, students, working women, entrepreneurs and politically active women. IRC handled tool translation, recruitment, moderation, transcription, analysis and reporting, and the results give practical insight for future civic engagement programmes.
